Did you know that according to the U.S. Department of Energy, drafts are responsible for homeowners losing 5%-30% of their home’s energy? Is this happening to you? Cracks, gaps and holes around your doors and windows can really cost you a lot of money. Homeowners that have major cracks and gaps around their doors or windows say that by simply sealing those up they have saved an astounding 1/3 of their energy costs every month. Summer is upon us and you know that we would much rather pay for the air conditioned air to stay in our house than pay for it to seep out through the cracks. So what can we do?

A few tips to help…

  1. A little caulk and some weather stripping will save you money every month on your electric bill.

  2. Locate any cracks, gaps or holes around all exterior doors and windows.

  3. Use the weatherproof caulk to seal up any crack, gap or hole between your windows and door frames and the exterior of your house.

  4. If you have a gap around an exterior door install some weather stripping to the door or door frame to completely seal the gap.

Bonus!

By sealing these cracks, gaps or holes, you’re also insuring that tiny critters like ants and spiders are not finding an easy way into your home.

If you think you may have some spots around you home that need to be sealed up are are more comfortable hiring a professional to find those spots and seal them for you, call me today and we can schedule an appointment to start saving you money.
